You can opt to visit the Historic Archives and Museum of Hydra, the Ecclesiastical and Byzantine Museum located in the old Monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and the Museum of Post-Byzantine Art and History, situated in the mansion of Georgios Kountouriotis.

Throughout Spetses town, you'll find neoclassical houses, old anchors, and famous captain's houses, as the island has a long naval history, which the locals are always willing to share with you. A visit to its museums will allow you to understand the importance of this area to modern Greek history and the Greek War of Independence. The museum of the heroine Bouboulina constructed as an honor for her significant contribution to the War of Independence of 1821, is worth a visit. The most important festival is the Armata Festival, which commemorates a naval battle between Greek and Ottoman ships during the Greek War of Independence. A weeklong celebration culminates in the "burning of the Ottoman flagship" the weekend after September 8th.
