Santorini is the world-famous Greek Island located in the south Aegean Sea. It is a 40-minutes fly from Athens International Airport or an average of 6 to 8 hours boat ride from the port of Piraeus. Santorini is essentially what remains after an enormous volcanic eruption that destroyed the earliest settlements on a formerly single island, and created the current geological caldera. A giant central, rectangular lagoon with steep cliffs on three sides. The main island slopes downward to the Aegean Sea. The capital Fira, Oia, and Imerovigli cling to the top of the cliff looking down on the lagoon, the volcanic rocks, and the world-famous Santorinian sunset. Apart from the breathtaking views and the amazing sunsets, Santorini is well known for the local wines which have been internationally awarded. Santorini also hosts the incredible “Excavations” of Akrotiri as well as the ruins of Ancient Thera and the museums of Ancient and Prehistorical Thera. The capital of Santorini is Fira. A traditional settlement, “Firá” derives its name from an alternative pronunciation of “Thíra”, the ancient name of the island itself.

The island of Kythira stands out both for its rare natural beauty and for its geographic position since it is located in the passage between Crete and the Peloponnese, the Ionian Sea, and Central Greece. For these reasons and many more others, for years, it has been an attractive destination. Diakofti main port is the starting point for exploring the rest of the island. It is a town much appreciated by tourists with many shops and a beautiful homonymous beach nearby. The most picturesque village on the island is Avlemonas with fascinating bays and green waters. Other beaches which stand out are Kalami in Mylopotamos, Lagkada, and Kaladi beaches; the last one is probably the best beach on the island. Equally, beautiful beach is Melidoni beach, while more exotic getaways which you can reach by boat are found on Chitra islet just a few kilometers from the port of Kapsali.

Kimolos, the unpretentious charming neighbor of Milos, belongs to the Cyclades Complex. In this small speck of land, an untouched paradise is waiting to unfold its wonderful secrets! The capital of Kimolos is Chorió, which lies at the foot of Xaplovouni mount in the imposing medieval Castle. The white houses with the blue shutters and flower gardens, the cobbled streets with hearts and butterfly designs, the white churches with the blue domes, and the old windmills compose a captivating “corner” that seems to have sprung out of a fairytale! Chorió center is the medieval Castle; a fortified settlement with unique architecture. The Castle contains the individual settlements of Mesa and Exo Kastro, interconnected with Portares (passages). Major attractions of Chorió are the Archaeological Museum and Manolis Christoulakis Folk-Maritime Museum. Scattered through this picturesque village there are countless churches, among which the church of Panagia Odigitria (Virgin Mary the Leader), which is Kimolos Cathedral, as well as the churches of “Gennisis Tou Christou” (Christ Nativity) which is inside the Castle and St. John Chrysostom, both of which have been declared as preserved monuments, stand out. In Chorió, you will find traditional cafés and quaint taverns.

Sifnos has a dreamlike quality. Three whitewashed villages, anchored by the capital Apollonia, sit like pearls on a string along the crest of the island. The changing light kisses the landscape, and as you explore the flanking slopes of the central mountains you’ll discover abundant terraced olive groves, almond trees, oleander, and aromatic herbs. Each of the island’s bays harbors a spectrum of aqua waters and offers breathtaking vistas. During the Archaic period (from about the 8th century BC), Sifnos was enriched by its gold and silver deposits, but by the 5th century BC, the mines were exhausted. Sifnos is now known for pottery, basket weaving, and cookery. Visitors flock to the southern half of the island, served by good bus links, but it’s worth getting your own wheels and driving to the remote beaches of the north, where the main road culminates in – you guessed it! – a church.

White houses with blue doors and windows, whitewashed cobbled streets twisting under galleries and “volta”, traditional cafés, grocery stores, and little taverns, beautiful churches at the village central square, “xynaria” (natural sources) with running water, gardens full of flowers and elaborate stone houses with marble decorations are but a few of the things the visitor will recollect after leaving Tinos.

Milos island is administratively part of the county of the Cyclades and geographically belongs to Eastern Cyclades. Milos is the most original and unique of all the Cyclades Islands. Its originality and incredible beauty are due to its volcanic origin which gives the island particularly bright colors and rocks of amazing shapes. The rare morphology of Milos and its mineral richness creates dream-like combinations of spectacular rock formations and caves, mosaics of various textures, and incredible colors that surprise and enchant everyone who is lucky to visit this island. Milos has to offer more than 75 beaches of silver sand and limpid waters which can sometimes turn azure blue or emerald green. Apart from its magnificent landscape and paradisal beaches, Milos is also known for its rich history. It is the place where the world-famous statue of the Aphrodite of Milos (Venus de Milo) has been found on the 8th of April 1820 by an inhabitant of Plaka. A French Consul bought the beautiful statue from the villager and gave it as a present to the King of France (Louis XVIII) and was later placed in the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Antiparos island is a small island of the Cyclades, close to Paros. The main city is found on the north-western tip of the island and is called Antiparos, although it is also known as Kastro. In spite of being small, it has many attractions that assure a good quantity of tourists every year. In fact, the entertainment offered is so varied that it can fulfill the requests of different age ranges, not only during the daytime but also in terms of nightlife. Regarding its beaches, there is a good number of small and picturesque coasts. One of the main places of interest in Antiparos is its famous cave, dating from ancient years. This cave keeps its stalactites and stalagmites, although, during the war that took place from 1700 to 1774, Russian soldiers cut many of them in order to keep them as souvenirs, the same as the Italian soldiers during the 2nd World War. The cave also has some inscriptions, among which some names can still be discerned. Antiparos has also many artistic and cultural events that include exhibitions, plays, literary readings, dance performances, and concerts. There are interesting seminars and art lessons available during the whole year as well. Regarding the celebrations, the island observes many festivals: on May 7th, June 23rd and 24th, and September 7th among others.
