Welcome to Greece! Our guide will be expecting you at the airport of Thessaloniki and you will be heading towards your accommodation at the heart of the second biggest city in Greece. After a short break, you will be visiting the Cavern of Saint George, located in Kilkis area. This cavern is mostly known for functioning as a therapeutic cave for respiratory problems, due to its very good temperature and the absence of ozone and dust. Moreover, it is famous for the discovery of numerous fossils of animals, now located at the cavern’s paleontological museum which is also worth visiting. Walk through the lush green of Kilkis and for the daring ones, you can take a dive in the ice-cold Smaragdenia Lake. Taste local delicacies such as fresh pasta, ‘kaseri’ cheese, and spoon sweets at the local taverns. Overnight in Thessaloniki.
Good morning! After a great breakfast, you are ready for your next expedition at one of the most important caves not only in Greece but in Europe as well, the Cavern of Alistrati in Serres region. When entering the cavern, it is impossible not to admire the impressive stalagmites and stalactites that have formed by nature over the years. You will also be joining a mini trip by train passing through the gorge of Aggitis river while cherishing the incredible view of the region’s flora and fauna. There will be time for lunch in Serres along with the famous sweets made with goat butter, the sausages, the ‘bougatsa’ pies, and ‘ouzo’. Returning to Thessaloniki you will be having your night free.
Today is another day for an adventure! After your breakfast, you will be heading to Drama city, one of the most beautiful ones in North Greece. Arriving at the Aggitis Cave you will see a river passing through the cave and a large hydraulic wheel used for supplementing water during the Ottoman era. The cave is also dominated by red and white stalactites of various forms. Back to the center of Drama you will be having free time for walks and lunch including local cold cuts, beans, cheese, blueberries, and wine. Overnight in Thessaloniki.
Early in the morning, you will be heading to the Ioannina region in the southwest of Greece. After a short break at your stay in the city of Ioannina, you will be arriving at the Cave of Peramatos. The cave is known for its therapeutic properties because of its special climate condition hidden from the common atmosphere. Famous for its stalactites and paleontological findings a tour inside will leave you with an unforgettable experience. Next, you will be free for lunch at the city’s center and for shopping for local products such as pasta, herbs, wine, and spoon sweets. You can also take long walks by the famous lake at night. Overnight in Ioannina.
After your breakfast, your trip continues southern Greece until arriving at the Gytheio region in Peloponnese. Continuing your trip, you will finally arrive at the Diros Cavern, one of the most fascinating caves in the world! Along with its thousands of imposing stalactites, crystals, and stalagmites formed for over a hundred thousand years, scientists found fossilized bones of a panther, deer, and the largest hippopotamus bones in Europe! After your exploration at the cave, you will return to Gytheio for lunch and dinner including smoked pork, fresh bread, honey, and olive oil to taste. Overnight in Gytheio.
After your breakfast, you will be sailing from the port of Gytheio to Kythira Island. Next up you will be visiting, the Cavern of Saint Sophia. Formed for millions of years with its remarkable biological value and its yellow-red colored rocks this is exceptional experience will leave you with the best memories. The rest of the day is free for you for a quick dive at the turquoise waters of the island and of course for lunch and dinner at traditional taverns.
