Legend has it that Odysseus was shipwrecked on Leipsoi, which was Calypso's island during his return trip to Ithaca, and she refused to let him leave for seven years! During summer and especially in August, a lot of festivals are being organized with live music and plenty of food and traditional wine. For example, on the 23d of August locals celebrate the Virgin Mary of Charou with worships and a big festival. Those who enjoy hiking can find many paths that lead to the Castle of Leipsoi where Acropolis remnants still remain.
