Mt Athos – fishing & boating along the “Holy mountain”

Combine fishing with the view of the largest and most important monastic state in the Orthodox East, also known as ‘The Garden of The Virgin Mary’.

Mt Athos - fishing & boating along the "Holy mountain"

Destination Halkidiki is the peninsula southeast of Thessaloniki shaped like Poseidon's trident that seems to jut out into the Aegean Sea. According to one of the myths, the peninsula emerged in the place where the ancient Greek god of the sea, Poseidon, lost his trident, having thrown it at Titans Sithon and Athos in anger. Three prongs of this trident formed three peninsulas – Athos, Sithonia, and Kassandra. As you travel along the route, you will pass through perhaps one of the most religiously significant locations on earth - where 2,000 monks from across Greece and other Eastern Orthodox nations currently reside.

Mount Athos, sometimes referred to as the “Holy Mountain”, is isolated from the rest of the world, making it an ideal location for such a large-scale religious landmark.

There's no doubt that the best way to see this iconic location - indeed the simplest - is from afar and while fishing at the same time. You will be amazed at the harmony of the architecture and natural beauty on Mount Athos. Although this will only be a "sail by" activity, it is sure to be a highlight of your fishing trip.
